Volkswagen today unveiled the modified version of its traditional Beetle for off road use at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show. This modified off-road ‘Baja Bug’ is termed as ‘Beetle Dune’ and will hit the US market from early 2016. The Beetle Dune will be available in both Coupe and Convertible variants. The Dune looks sportier, adventurous than traditional Beetle and features newly designed front bumper, a large rear spoiler and 18 inch “Canyon” aluminium alloy wheels wrapped in all season tires.
From the front, Dune looks wider and taller with enlarged front wheel arches. The front bumper is completely modified and finished in matte black and aluminium skid plates. To enhance the off-road capabilities, ground clearance of the Dune has been raised by 0.4 inches, and track has been widened by 0.6 inches.
Looking from the side, Dune sports is polished to perfection. Aluminium sills, aluminium wing mirrors and front and rear wheel arches are finished with mate black colour. The aluminium skid plates provide Dune more aggressive look, even if its ground clearance has been raised by a few inches. The Beetle Dune rolls on 18 inch Canyon aluminium alloy wheels wrapped in 235/45 all-season tires.
The rear is heavily modified with a large rear spoiler, LED taillamps and a rear diffuser which also works as a skid plate. The car is equipped with 170hp, 1.8-liter, turbocharged four cylinder engine and six speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive.
The interior features leather wrapped sport seats and multifunctional steering wheel with yellow accents, a latest VW color infotainment system with 6.3 inch touch screen display. The 2016 Beetle Dune will be available in three exterior color trims; a sandstorm yellow, pearl white and deep black pearl. The interior of sandstorm yellow cars has a body color dashboard, while the white and black cars have a black pearl interior finish.
The Beetle Dune will come in both Coupe and Convertible variants. The Coupe variant will be available in market from first quarter of 2016; however Dune Convertible will arrive in the last quarter of 2016. The Price for Dune Coupe will start at USD 25,200 and from USD 29,650 for Dune Convertible.
